Diet Dilemma: What’s the Best Diet of Them All?

June 21st, 2017

Choosing the “best” of anything is, first and foremost, subjective. What works for one may be ineffective for another. This is certainly true with diets, which can be a tricky, slippery slope even in the best of times. However, there are certain nutritional programs that have stood the test of time. They are understandable, accessible and offer balanced, sound food plans that can benefit most people. This has not gone unnoticed by the public. Many, if not all, of the best weight loss programs are household words.

Weight Watchers

At more than 50 years old, Weight Watchers is the oldest and most famous weight loss program. It is backed by clinical research and takes a holistic approach to weight loss, going beyond measuring food intake to address mental and emotional health and to encourage the adoption of a healthy lifestyle. This aspect of the program has been dubbed “Beyond the Scale.” The goal is, simply, to lose weight and keep it off.

Jillian Michaels

Jillian Michaels gained widespread fame in her appearances on NBC’s “The Biggest Loser.” She is a certified personal trainer who has developed a plan that does not subscribe to one specific tenet, such as reduced carbs or minimal fats. Rather, her nutritional plans include dieting guides tailored to individuals combined with exercise. The three points of her program are:

  • A customized daily fitness plan
  • An individualized diet based on body types
  • A mobile app that makes following her plan convenient

This diet program also provides hundreds of recipes and many resources, including books, cookbooks, Wii video games and DVDs.

Nutrisystem

This comprehensive diet plan is a good idea for people who do not want to, or perhaps are unable to, worry about cooking, shopping, counting points and calories, and coming up with meal plans. This is a portion-controlled weight loss program that brings food right to clients’ doors. While similar to Jenny Craig, this diet plan is more affordable, with prices ranging from $9 to $11 per day for the plan, although purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables to eat with the delivered food is recommended. A downside to this eating plan could be the taste. Those individuals who dislike the taste of processed foods may have a problem.

Other Top Eating Plans

Some other top eating plans focus on sound, balanced diets. They include:

  • The Paleo Diet
  • The South Beach Diet
  • Medifast

There are many other diet programs, as well, with each having its own pros and cons for every individual. The way to choose the best weight loss programs is to research the options and then get honest. For more information about healthy dieting options, read about them here.
